YOUR HOST – Jody Sabral

Being a published writer I know how important it is to have the right kind of space to create. Time. Solitude. A view. Peace. Routine. Good company to chat through ideas. Naps. Good food and rest. Inspiration and Italy never fails on that score.

I have written and directed three prize-winning short drama films, published three novels and written countless screenplays which have won competitions. In 2014, while undertaking a Master of Arts in creative writing at City University in London, I won the Crime Writers’ Association Debut Dagger for my second book THE MOVEMENT. There I also met my literary agent and published my third novel I NEVER LIE.

I have also filmed and edited hundreds of news reports working with reporters and producers at the UK’s top broadcasters where story telling is finely tuned to communicate complex issues. I taught English before my career in journalism so have a thorough understanding of the English language. Collaborating is key to my creative process so I relish in brainstorming ideas for narrative fiction and drama.

Michael Andrew Bonner grew up in central Manchester, where he was educated at Manchester Grammar School, achieving A-grades throughout, including in English Language and Literature and Classical Literature and Civilisation. Michael continued to study the latter at Birmingham University where he received a First Class honours degree.

He then joined West Yorkshire Police where he worked in Leeds and Bradford as a Uniformed Constable, Sergeant, and Inspector, regularly assisting officers in job and promotion applications and writing numerous policy documents for the Force.

Michael attended the Leeds Savage writing group during this time – a group that met fortnightly to read and share their writing, offering each other constructive feedback. He led the group for a period of time before moving to Tuscany, where he bought a former chestnut mill, which he has personally renovated over the last 6 years.

Michael has an editing credit in Glenn James Brown’s first novel ‘Ironopolis’ for assistance with scenes involving Policing proceedure. Glen (a fellow Leeds Savage) had this novel shortlisted for the Orwell prize longlist and shortlisted for the Portico Prize.

Michael has strong copywriting and editorial skills and has employed these working for ‘The Big Journey Company’ and assisting Jody Sabral for her forthcoming novel. ‘You are not Her.’

Michael continues to live a simple off-grid life in his Tuscan Molino whilst pursuing his own writing projects.
